From the GM
It's incredible to think that Christmas and the end of another year is upon us already.
Working in regional economic development requires a sense of optimism. Everyone is currently operating in uniquely challenging circumstances with labour shortages, inflationary pressures, housing deficits, water security, connectivity and healthcare being critical concerns. When you add climate change and a barrage of natural disasters that have hit in the last few years to that list, optimism, resilience, and community are key. BIEDO are actively working to make connections and generate ideas and initiatives for the future development of our region. It will take plenty of grit and collaboration, but it is a challenge we are looking forward to taking on.
It was lovely to see some much-needed rain in the last month. It gives a nice lift to people’s spirits for the Christmas season and a bit of hope that things will get better. We are mindful that not everyone in the region has experienced equal levels of rain and that some people still desperately need follow-up rainfall. Our thoughts are with you and we hope you get the rain you need.
As the year comes to a close we want to express our gratitude for your continued support and engagement. It has been a remarkable year and we are excited about the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead in 2024.
Our offices will be closing on Thursday 21 December and reopening on Monday 8 January. The break is well-deserved for our hardworking team and we appreciate your understanding.
If you are staying close to home this Christmas and thinking of taking a few road trips, consider some of the natural wonders that we have here in the Burnett Inland as an option.
We want to wish you all the best over the festive season. We hope you get some time to relax and enjoy the company of those you love.
Merry Christmas and warm regards,
